Advanced Fire Protection for Cables

Fire protection for electrical cables prevents short circuits, reducing fire risk within cables. It also provides a way to identify the short circuit. This is achieved through the protective coating forming an intumescent char at the shortage point.
Tasman Rope Access’s cable coating sprays resist weathering and aging while maintaining flexibility for cable movement and removal. They can withstand cellulosic fires of 750°C for 90 minutes and Hydrocarbon fires of 1100°C for 90 minutes at a very low DFT.
Our teams incorporate a crucial feature in our coating – a thickness testing sample. This innovative approach facilitates thorough examination of coating thickness and provides insurance companies with a tool to verify cable conformity to required standards.

Protective Coating FAQ’s

Cable coating involves applying a protective material to electrical cables. This enhances their resilience against environmental factors and potential hazards. The process aims to provide insulation and safeguard cables from risks like fire, moisture, chemicals, and physical damage, ensuring the safety and reliability of electrical systems.

Cable coatings are often engineered to withstand high temperatures, resist weathering, and maintain flexibility to accommodate cable movement. Some coatings may also possess intumescent properties. This means they swell during a fire to form a protective char layer, preventing the spread of flames.

Cable coatings provide insurance companies with a reliable means of verifying cable conformity to required standards, contributing to risk mitigation.

Our cable coating can endure cellulosic fires of 750°C for 90 minutes and hydrocarbon fires of 1100°C for 90 minutes.

We prioritise excellence in product knowledge, installation techniques, and standards adherence. The TRA team ensures precise application with efficient overspray management, minimising waste and maintaining reliable, durable protection for all types of cables.
